Protect Your Pet’s Health with Expert Dental Care

Dental disease is one of the most common — and most overlooked — health issues affecting pets today. By age three, 75% of cats and 85% of dogs show signs of periodontal disease, often without obvious symptoms. Even pets who eat normally, play with toys, and act perfectly happy may be silently living with oral pain, inflammation, or infection.

At North Station clinic, we provide comprehensive dental care for dogs and cats to prevent disease, improve comfort, and protect long-term health. Our experienced team uses safe anesthesia and advanced diagnostics to ensure each cleaning is effective, stress-free, and tailored to your pet’s needs.

Why Dental Health Matters

Dental disease can do more than cause bad breath or tooth loss. If left untreated, it can lead to:

  • Chronic pain and gum infections
  • Bone loss around the teeth
  • Bacteria entering the bloodstream
  • Damage to vital organs like the heart, liver, and kidneys

Because pets are experts at hiding discomfort, regular dental exams and cleanings are essential, even when they seem fine.

What’s Included in a Dog or Cat Dental Cleaning

Every pet dental procedure at our hospital includes a thorough 10-step cleaning protocol to ensure complete and safe care:

Pre-screening tests

  • Nose-to-tail physical exam
  • Pre-anesthetic bloodwork to assess overall health

Pre-medication

  • Medications for pain, sedation, and nausea

IV catheter and fluid therapy

  • Maintains hydration and supports circulation

Anesthesia induction

  • Administered via IV for precise control and comfort

Airway protection

  • A breathing tube delivers oxygen and anesthetic gas while protecting the airway

Continuous monitoring

  • Heart rate, respiration, oxygen levels, temperature, and blood pressure are closely monitored throughout

Scale and polish

  • Ultrasonic scaling above and below the gumline
  • Polishing and fluoride application

Full-mouth dental radiographs

  • Digital X-rays assess root and jaw health

Veterinarian-performed oral exam

  • Identifies infection, damage, or areas needing treatment

Additional work (if needed)

  • Tooth extractions, oral surgery, or periodontal treatment, with your approval

After your pet wakes up under close technician supervision, we’ll review aftercare instructions and any medications to ensure a smooth recovery. Most pets are back to their usual selves within 24 hours.

AVMA-Approved Care

A Word About Anesthesia-Free Dental Cleanings

We know you want the best for your pet, and that includes safe, effective dental care. While anesthesia-free cleanings may sound appealing, they fall far below the standard of care recommended by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Without anesthesia, pets can’t remain still or comfortable enough to allow subgingival cleaning (below the gumline), where most disease occurs. Worse, attempts to scale teeth without sedation can cause pain, stress, and even injury while failing to address the root of the problem.

We follow AVMA guidelines because your pet deserves care that’s thorough, humane, and medically sound.
